Renault Captur

My old, trusty Ford Focus mark 1 (T reg) is starting to die. The ECU intermittently records speed and mileage. Since I last filled the tank it recorded 160 miles even though I know I drove at least 350 miles!

It's time for a change the beginning of next year. I may have the luxury of been offered a company car as my roles is getting reviewed soon since my boss left and I effectively took his job.

I was thinking of asking for a Renault Captur 1.5 dci (diesel) dynamique media nav if I strike lucky.

Does anyone on here own one who can comment on practicality of it with a small child who needs a pushchair, reliability of it and generally how you have found the quality of the item.

Alternatively with a budget of about £4k I was thinking of getting a big bum Megane as I heard they are va vs va voomy under the bonnet but safe and economical unless the electrics play up. Views on this car also?

Reason for choice is I owned the prior version of the megane and from new it did over 120k miles before the crank sensor and electric windows packed in.

Just to add, any other car recommendations are welcome.

Could be either.

Company car with low emissions, sub 104g and under £30k new. BIK (with private fuel) needs to be cheaper than loan cost as car goes back after 4 years. The captur will cost me about £115pcm (20% tax payer) vs easily £250pcm if I bought it and ran it privately .

If I bought privately would consider something that would run and run for a good 10-15 years.

If a company car, with the tax rules it has to be a snotty diesel. If you are driving lots of motorway miles then diesel. If it's local drives and private, then petrol.

always a tough subject is what car to buy

our next one has to be able to lug a few bikes around or carry 4 adults and all the holiday luggage

I've hired big bum Meganes a few times in France. I found them very comfy and quiet (I drive an E class so am used to quiet cars) and the diesels were very economical. Well equipped too.

Can't comment on the reliability though

I have just test tested a 1.5 dieselCaptur today and was very impressed. It is £0 road tax as under 100 mgs emission and looks stunning. Fuel economy is also very good but fuel tank a bit small at just 45 litres. Very well equipped inside and it certainly stand out on the road from other cars. Go for it.

Agree, captur is an absolute hoot to drive and the running costs are good too.
I'm a big fan of the Clio too. I'd have either as first choices.
