I am going to be biking from either Spain (Gijon or San Sebastian) or France (Bordeaux) to London, England beginning late September until mid-October. Thing is I will be hiking part of El Camino Frances before and part after the bike ride (which is a bike ride on behalf of shark marine conservation - which anyone is welcome to join, by the way!).... and, I don't want to bring a bike from Canada... I want to rent or buy over there... and, ideally pick the bike up in Spain or France and then drop it off in London (or, if I buy, sell it London)... I hope to do this on a budget, e.g. least expensive way possible. Any suggestions?????

Welcome myata20 and greetings.

Can you be a bit more detailed about where and when you will be riding, and when walking? Loads of people on CC can then give more specific advice.

My guess is that hiring bikes is a very expensive option on a lengthy trip, but I could be wrong.

Good luck.

I very much doubt that you will be able to hire a bike for the purpose that you have outlined. If a hire comapany existed that would meet your needs, I suspect that the hire charges would be very close to the cost of a bike.

You might like to explore buying a flat barred tourer from a Decathlon store. They are well represented in France and Spain. The only extras that you'll need after the purchase are panniers and camping gear.

Buy one on E-Bay
Sell it when you have finished

Otherwise look at the St Johns Street Cycles web site, they take in old tourers in part exchange for their own brand bikes (Thorn).
They are geared up for web based purchase, as they sell their own bikes worldwide and will ship the bike to wherever you want.

They often have quite good old tourers for sale, it may help it you e-mailed them and said what you wanted.

Brains is right, buy and sell one from Ebay. Spain is not such a good market for second hand bikes, all the big cities are still full of either retro steel bikes or folders. I've tried to get a decent bike in Barcelona several times via the free ads and segundomano, never with any luck.

Gijon is great, often overlooked but well worth seeing, Asturias as a whole is just jaw droppingly beautful.

If your plans change then I have a 23" Hybrid bike with touring rack in Barcelona that I want returned to the UK.....
