I have complaned to a number of companies. Obviously one can never be 100% certain that a fob off isn't being administered. On the whole I think the outcomes have been worthwhile.

I know that with one firm in particular the veritable Sh**storm that was unleashed would, I hope, mean that incidences of driving and using a mobile phone would be curtailed.

If you hear nothing from the company after a reasonable length of time, then see if they belong to a professional body. If they do then write a letter to them.
If you have a video then post it on YouTube with a title of "Bad driver employed by company xxxxx". And there is alway the local press, but you need video or photos for that

I would happily post the video on Youtube but unfortunately I have encountered a problem where the page does not exist for some reason?

I've always wondered whether the better thing is to find out who the company's insurers are and then send your report to them, preferably with a video. Hopefully it will affect the company's premium and therefore hit them where it hurts i.e. in the wallet. Then they might start taking it seriously. Just need to find a way of finding out who the insurers are.

If you do complain, you can't be sure that anything will happen.
But if you don't, you can guarantee that nothing will happen.

If the incident is bad enough to warrant it, I can't think of a reason not to complain.

Do reporting driver to the company actually have benefits?

I'll let you know how Kelvinair react to this.

Did a Google on Kelvinair to find their address, so I could write a followup letter (since my e-mail complaint has failed to raise them from their slumbers), and blow me, if the wee video doesn't show on Google's first page

With company vehicles you should always mention health and safety, there was a recent thread on CC about the H&S legislation that is of interest.

H&S, penalties for corporate manslaughter, company image, reporting to HVCA trade association ............ the lot! Looking forward to getting a bill for replacement of the managing director's computer screen

When my eldset lad was a toddler I was driving at the speed limit through a residential 30mph built up area with him in the back seat when an idiot in a van came screaming up behind me. He was clearly trying to bully me out the way or to go faster, neither of which I was going to do. At one point I thought the van was stolen due to the manner in which it was being driven, inches from the back of my car, weaving all over the place.

Matey boy eventually overtook me and disappeared in a cloud of dust and exhaust fumes driving like a fatal collision looking for a scene. He was in a works van with the company name written all over it. I noted the van details / driver description and rang the firm to share my displeasure at their drivers vehiclular behaviour. I'm not normally given to doing this but this was so bad it warranted a phone call.

Seems I wasn't the first to complain about this fool and was put through to the MD who was livid that his firm was being 'advertised' in such a bad light. He promised to look into the incident and get back to me. A couple of days later he contacted to me to say there had been a catalogue of complaints about this driver and mine was the final straw, as a result he had 'let him go'. The MD may have been telling me fibs but I had no reason to disbelieve him.

On one hand I was sorry that the driver had lost his job but on the other I hoped this incident was a wake up call that driving like complete idiot with total disregard for other road users is neither big or clever and usually ends in tears.

I phoned a company about one of their vans habitually speeding through our street, which is restricted to residents only. The transport manager was apologetic and told me he would have a word with the driver about speeding and breaking access restrictions.

You can imagine his reaction when I phoned him a couple of days later to tell him I'd just seen the same van speeding through! I haven't seen it since.

You've got to get the vehicle reg right as well as the time and all the other details. We have also reported habitual speeders to Lancashire Police in the same way and one of them is now on a final warning to have his car impounded.

I've not reported anyone while cycling but have done while driving.

Companies seem very interested and on a couple of occasions told me that they had a previous reports on the same driver that day and the driver will be sacked on return to base.

I think many companies, large or small, are concerned at their public image if their name is emblazoned on the side of their vehicles. Maybe more so if they are a smaller local company.

+1

I had my college bus driver sacked after two incidents.

First: He was too close to a bus in front and was forced to perform an emergency stop at a set of traffic lights. A girl at the back of the bus fell out of her seat and hit her head on the chair in front. He then threatened me when I asked for his details at the end of the journey.

Second: When I was getting off at my stop, I noticed that he was on his mobile and was operating all the bus controls with just one hand. I didnt say anything to him because I couldnt be bothered then. I reported it to the college and he was sacked from the bus company and not allowed to work in the council at all.

A good outcome.
