Hi

I'm just about to move and want to start bike commuting (instead of seeing a nice road bike sit in a cupboard and get the odd weekend run out). Problem is, I can find nothing about whether the route is lit well enough to commute through the winter.

Does anyone use the A23 Purley to Horley to commute? Is it safe/lit enough or are there viable alternative routes?

Thanks.

I've been away for 20 years, so updates may be better than I...

Purley to Coulsdon was OK, maybe better if you go through the town rather than the bypass, then possible fast traffic along the D/Cway through Hooley to the M23 start. OK through Merstham/Redhill, up the hill to Earlswood, and down the Hill through Salfords to Horley.

Alternates could be over towards Kenley, Old Coulsdon, Chaldon, Small Dole, Horley. Longish ride this one, depends on your time for commuting....this would be my preferrd leisurely ride tho'!

Uhh...

Dual carriageway - national speed limit? Doesn't sound fun. There look to be a couple of lanes running paralell so might be time to invest in some serious lights and take to the back roads!

Thanks for the advice.

Hi there,

I don't know if this link is of any use to you but I've used this service to work out my best commuting route in Cambridge.

Have a look Here.

I've planned a basic route from Purley (say no more) to Horley and it came back with a fast route and a quiet route.

I've been using this website for some time and whenever you plan a route it gives you a unique route number - oddly the one I just planned for you is number 66666! Maybe you're better off driving
