I really need to take them but feel guilty.on my days off from work I tend to do my longer fun rides but hit the wall this week after a hard 12 hour shift felt like I was cycling through tar to get home took 10 mins longer over 9 miles. yesterday morning was the same and as I broke a spoke I had a lift home. drove in this morning feeling better for extra hour in bed . So driving in tommorow and lesson learned

Do you go the same way to work and the same way home, as sometimes this can get repetitive.
if you can mix it up a bit go home a different way.
I have about 4 different ways I can get to work/home, depending on how I feel

I normally treat Saturday as a rest day and do no cycling, I brought a car about 12 months ago and now only commute 4 days most weeks, 13 miles a day, but before that I would commute 5 days a week and do a long ride on Sundays, if I didn't have a day off I would knacker myself out.

I used to take days off to rest but these days I have found just taking it easier and reducing the distance by 10% helps rest the legs.

I like to hammer the commuting in the week, up to 350 miles, and then have the weekend to rest the legs with some cleaning and fettling. Your body definately needs to rest for it to perform at its best week in week out.

Commuting 5 days a week can be tiring especially if the weather isn't great, but purposely taking it very easy on a couple of the days does help. Saturday is usually my rest day then I'll do a longer run on a Sunday if I have time.

This and as others say changing the route helps alleviate some of the boredom, I have no alternative and will frequently have to commute 7 days a week so changing the route is almost like taking time off. That or very rarely just taking it "easy" on the way home or exploring little side roads I've not used before just for something different.

Due to commitments on a Wednesday I drive in to work and commute the other 4 days. I also try and get out for a ride at the weekend. I find that having the day off in the middle does wonders and I always push myself that little bit harder on a Tuesday evening knowing I have the next day to rest. On weeks where I have cycled 3/4 days in a row I really do feel the difference.
