The ribbitting has stopped now. And very few frogs to be seem. I have quite a bit of spawn in the pond so tadpoles are due in a little while .

But now the newts seem to be active in their very own secretive way. I call two of the newts Brahms and Liszt

Our club ride last night suffered a couple of real downpours. The frogs were out in force, and we must have literally seen thousands of them along various tracks and on the roads. It was quite entertaining trying to pick a line, in the dark, with the added hope of not squishing too many. They all looked a bit puzzled at the lights if the truth were known. Bless.

I've only done our night club run once, apparently we went over a plague of frogs. I didn't really notice in the middle of the peleton  my lights aren't that good and I was trying too hard to keep up.

Very slight digression, but I remember going with my son ( then 10) visiting my old Dad many years ago and when he came to the door the conversation went something like this

Son... Grandad, can you make a noise like a frog
GF. No Matthew, why?
Son. Cos my Dad said when you croak we'll get a fortune...
GF..............................

I hasten to add that I said no such thing and it's funny to look back on but the old chap was not amused at the time.

Excellent names for the newts Twentysix.

A couple of years ago I found a line of toadlets that was at least a kilometre in length. Little ones, nose to tail and side by side going from a wood, along a reservoir wall and off into another wood. That's a lot of toads!

I found where they cross the road when grown up on the return journey and marvelled at the sight. Until a car came past, then another one ;)

Yes indeed. I have a pond absolutely heaving with them. And Ribbitting isn't all they are up to  xx(

Ah, what my Mum once referred to, in her inimitable style, as 'licentious frogging'...

My sister and I once came across a load of frogs crossing a minor road while walking back from the pub after a few drinks. (we'd had the drinks, not the frogs) and spent a hilarious tipsy half hour trying to rescue them by lifting them accross to the pond side...
