Can any London Lads and Lasses give me any ideas for the best cycle route from Victoria station to Paddington Station,as i am unfamiliar of that area. It will be evening time, to catch the night sleeper to Penzance.
Cheers

Easy Peasy. it's about 2 miles.
North from Victoria up Grosvenor Place (Past Wellington Arch, meet of FNRttC & The CC Sunday Morning Meet)
Now you can either go through Hyde Park (that will be shut at night) or up Park Lane (right at Hyde Park Corner, then left.)
Up Park Lane then around Marble Arch and onto the Edgware Road, turn left into Pread Street and Paddington Station is on your right.

It's a very busy route to cycle, but if you are an experienced cyclist then it will be no problem.

edit. just remembered part of Praed St is one way so you would need to turn left at Sussex Gardens then right into Norfolk place, left into Praed Street

My regular haunt, I'd take Ian's route. It might be more straightforward to follow the Bayswater Road (A40) from Marble Arch then turn right at Lancaster Gate. Although that would be a few yards longer the landmarks may be easier to pick up.

Both suggestions are excellent. My two cents: although Park Lane has a fierce reputation, it has bus lanes in both directions, so is quite bike friendly. Easy ride, and no need to fear anything. Nothing in Central London moves that fast, and most drivers are quite good.

Bus lanes in both directions? When did you last ride park lane northbound?
Northbound is 40mph limit with no bus lanes, apart from the last few hundred yards at marble arch. If you are lucky no coaches or HGV's are parked in the parking area and you can use that relatively safely.
It is possible to ride up there when the parking area is full but you're not going to want to do it at a lessuirly pace.

I've never ridden up Park Lane. I used to drive up and down it a fair bit when it was on the edge of the original CC zone. Sorry for the dodgy information. I was convinced it had a bus lane northbound.

When was the last time you rode on a busy road? You can quite easily take any bike up Park Lane at any pace, normal rules of the road apply with respect to the basic checks to make on a bike and you will have no problems. A road is a road after all.

I ride on busy roads everyday and I don't have a problem with them. But not every cyclist wants to ride on busy roads, especially when there is a perfectly good cycle path in the adjacent park. Hence why I only see 1 or 2 cyclists cycling up park lane and more than I can count on my hands in the park ;)
