Don't get Muse. I love all great guitar bands from most era's, AC/DC right through to ZZ Top and everything inbetween but for some reason Muse jut don't do anything for me at all.

They are such a good band. :becool:

For me it's the riff that opens Newborn

Just the dirtiest, the most thrilling, the best bit of guitar ever.

ian, this is from wiki re Rush influences - "starting with the common "power trio" formats of the bands, virtuoso musicianship, expansive lyrical themes, a progressive attitude, and intelligent use of technology in their music, especialy live."

I've seen muse a couple of times at festivals, and they are very impressive, but the thrill wears off after about 2 songs.

They want to be operatic but they are still shoegazers at heart. It just doesn't work live. A consummate studio band though.

I'll need to by a CD by this Muse fellow, heard so much about him.

Got a mention on the Guitar Heroes program a while back so they must be doing something right.

Let's have a riff and keep pace with this one...if you have no patience slide along to 6.05 minutes and riff-along-a-max

Don't buy a whole CD by them. The sameiness would decimate the value of anything good on there. Definitely a one at a time MP3 band.

The last single 'knights of cydonia is their best, and potentially a classic.

There's a 3 second bass break in the middle of 'You can call me Al' on Paul Simon's Graceland album that just makes me smile every time I hear it. 3.45 on this.

Muse are indeed very much like Rush. We need a new blast of something like punk that will exterminate them all.

A guitarist friend of mine who used to be in a band called The Egg (best known for one of their tunes being remixed by David Guetta and used in that transformers car ad) used to do a live number which had the unofficial title of The Great Barrier Riff, which was deliberately designed to be the ultimate guitar riff, which went on for a about a minute. It worked because it was then totally subverted and bashed up by a slamming electro workout. Without that it would have just been so much wankery. They still are a great live band BTW - if you get a chance to see them. My mate doesn't play guitar for them anymore though.
