Peter Jackon was hugely influenced by Harryhausen. It was the stop motion animation that inspired him. I've no doubt Jackson will be amongst those paying tributes.

Sad news indeed. I love all his work especially Jason & The Argonauts. I actually visited the temples used in the Patrick Troughton/Harpies scenes, whilst on holiday in Italy. ( Paestum, south of Salerno).

Jason & The Argonauts was amazing for it's time.
We where gobsmacked at the stop motion of the skeletons, Medusa etc.
Looks very dated now..but back then, brilliant.

Oh dear another icon from my childhood is gone:sad:. I must be of 'that' age. Sir Patrick Moore, Gerry Anderson gone too:sad:.

i met him once and i was in awe. he was lovely, a very kind man.

also went to a special event at the BFI years ago, he did a talk before a screening of one of his films. he brought along some 'guests', one of them was a skeleton from jason. it was in a small coffin and when he opene the lid the audience gasped as the skeleton was revealed. even after all thse years, that model still had the power to terrorise people.

Filmed an interview with the great man about 8 years ago, even he hated CGI. He said that with CGI the monsters don't get a personality, when they are animated by hand they are imbued with the personality and feelings of the animator.

In the first part of Peter Jackson’s trilogy, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings (2001) the giant cave troll was a tribute to Ray’s animation in the form of how the creature moved, and specifically, how he held his arms.
