Tragically, the same people also take Nigel Farage seriously.

I have just heard that Warren Mitchell has passed away.

We of course all remember Alf Garnet. Before the days of political correctness, when he got away with everything and all races could see the funny side.

He said he enjoyed his jewishness but was an aethiest. A good actor and funny man.

RIP Alf.

I assumed he had died ages ago. He seemed pretty well into middle age in the 60s.

The BBC would never have the bottle to put on a show like that now. Problem was, even though Speight and Warren were ridiculing Alf Garnet, and bigots even knew this, they still agreed with him. OTOH, it was a time of mass immigration and social change; maybe it would have been wrong for the BBC not to acknowledge that some people had a problem with this.

On the buses was just as bad/Good.

We had "White Honkeys" in that.

Totally disagree - O-t-B was unmitigated shyte, containing racist / sexist barely-humour; poor even for its time and best left there.

Till Death on the other hand challenged racist and bigoted attitudes through humour and mockery, was subversive (in a good way). Also benefitted from clever writing and an excellent cast, not least the two stars (Mitchell & Dandy Nichols). It was also funny.
