Hi all, Ive been cycling for about 8 months so really just a novice. At the moment I ride a Shimano XT deore that ive put semi slicks on, that was given to me by my father in law (bless him), theres nowt wrong with the bike rides like a dream, im just looking for more speed and for longer distances. The amount of choice is confusing me, all im looking for is a good reliable lightweight and the best spec for my money ( not a lot lol). I am hoping to do the yorkshire wolds in the summer which is about 140 miles at the moment I go out 4 times a week covering about 30 miles each ride. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Decathlon BTwin models offer good vfm for £300 / £500, or possibly the Halfords Carrera models. You won't get a big brand name new for under £500

So you may be better off looking at second hand at that level - keep an eye on the classifieds

Thanks for the reply to be honest the brand doesnt really bother me it is purely the best spec for money. Ive bought bikes from halfords for my wife and daughter and was really not impressed the bike building qualtity was not great ened up redoing it my self after they tried to get it right twice, so they dont instill me with confidence. Ill have a look at the Decathlon BTwin models you mention.
