Hi,
I am looking to buy a road bike.
I will be taking part in the Etape Mercia in August which is 79 miles so need the bike for that, but it will become my everyday road bike in summer months at least after the race. Therfore I'm thinking I don't want an out-and-out nutter racing bike but one which will serve me adequately during the race (I'm expecting to finish well towards the back of the field!) and also serve me for many years afterwards for club outings, leisure, etc.
I am 5ft 7 and a bit with a 31.5 inside leg. Age 44. Based on this I would seem to require a frame size of 53/54 cm, 21 inches max, or in some parlances a 'medium'.
I'll not rule anything out but it must be in good condition, ready to ride. Don't mind the odd scuff.
I am based in Chester but will travel a reasonable distance for the right bike.
My max budget is £500 and, whilst I realise that I could buy a new bike for this amount, I would rather push up the spec as far as possible by buying second-hand.
Cheers,
Allen
