I don't know if it is just me or has anyone else noticed the amount of roadkill on the roads lately. The last few rides i have done have been littered with dead rabbits, birds, mice and once a large badger. Is this the beginning of the end,are we all doomed as the apocalypse approaches?

Time of year - lots of young/inexperienced critters out there to boost up the numbers.

I used to describe by audax rides by badger road kill. I peaked with a three badger ride.

In the Carmargue I got excited when I saw my first coypu road kill. The novelty wore off quickly when I got to double figures within ten kilometres.

Time of year, as others said. Also, with the mild winter, songbird populations are pretty strong this year. And so I'm seeing a lot of yellowhammers and the like killed by cars.

There's been a dead crow kerbside on one of my routes for weeks. The other day when it was very warm the thing was covered in bluebottles which just had to take off as i approached with some hitting me in the face! xx(

The smell of a dead badger is nothing compared against the smell of the toilets on Serbian local trains. I'm retching at the memory of the experience.

A fermenting badger is a more attractive smell I can tell you.

I recommend you try a bloated putrifying hippo as your next step up from a Serbian train. Nobody would be talking about dead crows if we had a few dead hippos littering our verges.

I trade your hippo soup for a childs PE kit left in a locker over summer.

Bunny and hedgehog RK around here, tends to stop as the darker night come back.
