My parents loved him and played his tapes often. Lovely voice, very soothing.
I read his Wiki. Bit shocking! His poor parents but what an amazing attitude Roger had.

I've always liked both. He had what I'd describe as a laid back, soothing voice. Plus he had the same name as my mother's maiden name, which as a child I felt a kind of an attachment.

There's a very funny chapter in Ozzy Osbournes biography where he is house hunting and goes to have a look at Roger Whittakers modest pile in the country. One can presume that Whittaker was either very easy going or else had a good sense of humour.

Many years ago, I stumbled across his website. It encouraged people to message Roger personally with any questions they'd like to ask.

Me being me, I asked him if, being a gifted whistler of no little renown, he could whistle the theme tune to "Pot Black".

He never replied to me, and now we'll never know for sure.

RIP, Roger.
