hello to everyone,
I am new to the forum and would like to take some advice on cycling from roscoff to caen , i m getting overnight ferries and i ve got 5 days to get from one place to another.
I would like to know what sort of prices are the b and b's in that part of the world, weather conditions for the end of september and anything else i have nt thought of.
I m not to worried about the physical effort unless there's bigger hills that i can't remember! I ve travel through that in the car a few times.
This is my first cycle tour and i ll be traveling light (travel light, cold night). cheers in advance

Welcome on board. Can't help with all your questions, although at about 230 miles it's do-able in 5 days. Weather should be ok, given it's latitude (further south than the UK), and the prevailing wids should (ahem) be from the west. B&B no idea, someone else will help on that front.

Hello Steve, I am for Brittany, I normally post on the other place and only read cycle chat but I cannot resist to answer this one!

For the Breton bit in term of route you have the choice between a more inland option which will show you the quieter side of Brittany and be probably flatter and the coast which is very nice indeed but you may find more hills. There is a French project similar to the British NCN called voie verte and you can go for the no traffic option:

For accomodation depending on your budget you can try;

gite d'etape is a generally small place for walkers and cyclists to stop and accomodation is generally in dormitories. It is worth doing this as you will generally find friendly people!

Chambre d'hote which is the French equivalent of a B&B more upmarket:

If you are stuck with no accomodation in the middle of the night close to a town a good solution is "formule 1" which is an inexpensive hotel that you can access at all hours with only a credit card.

I hope this helps...

Edit: I found another website: http://www.gites-refuges.com/
