Infact, not only did i get my knee down, both my elbows and my backside too.:smile:

Too right, they're lethal unless being used as they're intended. Proper race slicks also wear out incredibly quickly.

My brother was fortunate enough to have a former V&M R1 as a trakday bike. He decided he could get away with 1 more day on the slicks he was running. A rather expensive mistake as it turns out.

When we removed the rear tyre in the process of stripping down what was left of the bike from the resulting high-side it was so knackered that you could turn it inside out by hand!

What tyres do you guys use on the road?

I passed my big bike test back in March and I'm currenly on my first set of tyres, which aren't that great, but they'll do for the moment!

When they wear out, I'm planning on going for a pair of Bridgestone BT-021 because they're dual compound and apparently don't wear out too quick.

Good choice?

Up until I sold the bike earlier this year I was using Mitchelin Pilot Power 2CT's, being dual compound I found that they lasted a reasonable amount of time but performed well enough to run in fast groups on trackdays with no problem.

I think they might have been superceded but there should be more recent equivalent.

The BT-021 is pretty good from what other have said although I've never used it myself.

To be honest, if you're not going to be doing trakdays then I'd go for something harder wearing, you'd be amazed how hard you have to push even a more touring based tyre before it'll let go and if you're riding that hard on the road it's not going to make much of any difference which tyre you chose :whistle:

I'd agree with this. Track oriented tyres have a finite amount of heat cycles before they go off. The Gixxer is running Pilot 2CTs and they warm up very quickly on the road. They are road tyres at the end of the day and work very well in this environment (although you will see massive amounts of grip on the track)

I had a front end slide (only about 2" sideways) on Supercorsas a few years ago. Absolutely controllable but if I'd had done it on the road, I'd have binned it as you never ride to that level that you get the heat is in them. They go like chewing gum when they warm up on the track.

As little as possible, no reason to do it on a cycle unless you fall off.

As a motorcyclist, I do find it useful on the track as it is a good indicator of how fast you are cornering and how far you are leaning over, but anyone doing it on the road is doing it for purely for the pose factor. I've heard of people falling off connecting with cats eyes trying it.

Ah! I dunno - I don't do it when there are other vehicles about, but I sometimes do it on clear roundabouts, just to see if I can do it! Probably shouldn't ... :wacko:

As for getting my knee down on a bicycle - I think I'd be horizontal and sliding sideways before my knee got anywhere near down!

I've got 021s on both of my bikes. I like them.
