Ha, I've been in the Café des Remparts in Egletons! (The first café in the film.) I worked for 3 summers doing gigs in the region. Beautiful area, le Limousin.
And M. Plaine is as mad as a bag of grenouilles! Thanks for posting it up - it's given me a twinge of nostalgia and the desire to revisit the area, but on a bike this time.
Very saddened to hear that this chap, Patrick Plaine, was killed at the end of last year whilst out riding. Apparently hit by a forestry vehicle a few miles from home.
He'd done about 1.7 million kms in his career [1.058 million miles].
Just going back in time on a rainy afternoon and watching this video again, I'm struck by the thoughts of this guy who seems to be a luddite with his choice of cycle gear. However he seems to be riding an Aluminium framed bike with STIs. I've been trying to work out what model of Giant bike that is, but it has me stumped. I'd have thought he would have been on a steel job with DT shifters. Anybody recognize it?
