Routes to North Wales from the Midlands

When someone said last year when I started out last summer that slowly building up the mileage was the way to get going they were quite right. I have found from feeling knackered after an hour, I can now be in the saddle for 4 hours quite comfortably and have notched up a few 50 mile rides around the west midlands. A A mate has persuaded me we could do North Wales taking in Lake Bala and Lake Vrnwy and Llanberis for a snowden visit and then on to the north coast. We aim to do about 40 miles a day plus sightseeing, with a mix of Camping or B&B in mid june. Now looking at routes the suggestion was route 81 to Shrewsbury, but there after which way. Would like to try and avoid the A roads as much as possible ,especially the A5,unless there is a cycleway.Does anyone have any experience of doing this journey. Any help much appreciated
