Same as many of the above but carry a couple of pairs of latex gloves...small and light...you never know when your chain is gonna come off...or you have to carry out an internal inves...actually...no...gone too far!

I do a 32 mile country lane commute most days and take these with me out of your list. Also some money and a phone.
As has been said you can't cover all potential breakdowns and to be honest if it's any more than a flat I'd prefer to ring the Mrs or a taxi and sort it at home in the workshop.

I also have a new plan though after reading this thread, @numbnuts you should hire yourself out as a back up mobile toolstation, awesome list of tackle ! !

I quite often ruralfy (just made the word up) my commute and I cant imagine carrying any more than a tube, tyre levers and a pump (I do have the advantage that its a fixie; so hopefully the wider chain is less likely to fail but I need to carry a small spanner too you wont have to. Ive also recently bought a cheap multi tool from LIDL and I see no harm in carrying that. And if your work has nowhere to clean up or you just don't like mucky hands I'd consider a pair of latex gloves; its not like they'll take up much space or weigh you down ;)

pump - Topeak Morph
multi tool - Topeak Hexus II
2 x tubes
Topeak emergency patch kit, instant patches and a spare powerlink in a little case
some zip ties
Leatherman type folding tool with a mini torch on it
spare disc brake pads
latex gloves
tyre levers

That's the minimum I have on any bike, my allrounder has a lot more, not quite Numbnuts but not far off

I know where my towel is
In the rucksack apart from the usual commute load of spare clothing (shorts, t-shirt, underwear, socks, light waterproof, office wear) and locks (lock goes nicely in the laptop compartment) etc...

I carry a multi-tool, mini pump, spoke key and mobile phone.

I do a mix of country roads and main roads on my 22mile commute.

I have a pair of marathon plus tyres on the bike which have held up very, very well so far.
I am probably riding my luck a bit and should get a couple of spare tubes...

I have 2 water bottle cages on the bike and can easily drink the 1200ml on my 22 mile commute before I reach the office in this weather.
So don't forget in this weather to carry plenty of water!

I cannot believe you leave so ill prepared. You should always, always carry a bucket of water with you in case all other measures fail and you have to locate a very small hole in your innertube. Bloody novices.
