Which online journey planner will give me combined routes for departing by train outside the capital to eventually arrive at a tube station ?

www.tfl doesn't seem to see rail stations outside of London and www.nationalrail doesn't seem to see tube stations

Not seen one that does both, but probably best to start with the tube station you want on a tube planner and work back/out from there to find the nearest National Rail station which is on your main line train route in, and check that your train stops at that station.

Train to Liverpool Street, and then the Underground, (Hammersmith and city line) eastbound towards barking. It is about 6 stops.

What about Traveline?

It's certainly very good for rural buses and trains (and ferries) around these parts but we don't have an underground network
