Just been to see the film Rush, not bad. I remember James Hunt becoming the F1 champion, and I can remember Nikki Lauda getting his face burnt off, but I didn't remember it all happening the same season. The main actors bear quite a good resemblance to the originals, although the chap who plays James Hunt is slightly better looking and less gone-to-seed. It was horrific the number of drivers who were killed during the 70s. I was surprised that during the 80s they brought the fatality rate to nearly zero, so that it was a shock when Ayrton Senna was killed, and a driver in practice the day before iirc by incredible coincidence.

The driver who was killed in practice was Roland Ratzenburger who's death was seriously overshadowed by Senna's.
The film is on my to do list.

I liked what, the Dudley Moore character, Arthur said in the eponymous film "I race cars, I fondle women, but I have Wednesdays off and I am my own boss". James hunt was a proper playboy, the world is a less colourful place without him.

There used to be some great characters in sport and dare I say even football had a few but corporate greed and money has hold of it now and sterilised it. Hunt and Sheen were awesome larger than life couldn't give a dam loveable rouges with not an ounce of prima donna in them.

Planning to see this myself, saw the trailer for it a few weeks ago anditlooked good.

Read an interview talking about them recently, Hunt was said to be wicked towards Lauda right down to saying that Lauda - who he called rat, I think - was the only man alive who could get burns to his face and end up better looking. Lauda seemed to accept anything he said in good humour.

I went to see it on Friday, it was loud. A lot of the footage looks to have been shot at Cadwell Park/Snetterton, the crash was however filmed at the scene of the 1976 accident.

Took Mrs 3BM to see this last night, if you want be entertained you'll really enjoy this film, Daniels Bruhl's performance as Niki Lauda is remarkable. If you want to pick it apart as a non-factual account you're better off giving it a miss and watching a documentary. I went to the cinema for the entertainment aspect and as such found the film hugely enjoyable, the scene where Niki Lauda and his future wife are trying to hitch a lift due to a broken down car is hilarious. It's directed by Ron Howard on a relatively small budget and manages to avoid any of his trademark ultra-schmaltz. It's not just for F1 fans, worth a punt.

Off to see it on Wednesday. Really looking forward to it

Excellent film. I have very little interest in F1! I think they went to a lot of trouble to get period details right, too. There was a BBC documentary the same day as I watched it, if you can get it on iplayer that is worth viewing, too.
