Been meaning to look a little deeper into his output ever since hearing a review/interview with him at the time of Chavez Ravine's release (2006 I think).
Brilliant album and interesting background story too.
The only other Cooder stuff I've got is the Rising Sons album, he was just a nipper when he joined Taj Mahal's band.

I saw him live about 20 years ago now in Birmingham - great show!!
He's excellent, great guitarist and good voice too. If you've only ever heard him on the radio though you'd think he'd only ever recorded one tune - Little Sister!!

Saw him live at the Edinburgh playhouse many years ago. One of my most memorable concerts - and not just for the music.
I remember Ry had announced that his concerts would be smoke free and asked the audience not to smoke. This was years before the smoking ban. About 3 rows in front of me a guy continued to smoke away. The guy behind him reminded him of Ry's wishes and was treated to a cursory '**** off".
About 2 minutes later the biggest bouncer I have ever seen came up and told the smoker to stop which he promptly did. Quick as a flash the original complainer said "You didn't tell him to **** off did you!" The whole crowd were in stitches.
I think the music was good too
