A few years back I was asked to pose for a photo to accompany a local newspaper article which we had encouraged the 'paper to write in an effort to publicise local authority neglect of a cycle route.
We went to the location and the photographer asked me to lean on my bike with a disgusted expression on my face, I told him "I don't do the play acting, this is serious".
He took the photo of me with a neutral expression.

Is there a newspaper photographer training school? The glum looking wronged people in the pictures in that thread could all have been lifted straight out of the local rag.

They send TV cameramen there too. Stock scenes include "Looking through a photo album" for dead relatives and "Looking at a big pile of official letters" for mix ups by authority.

One night I drove a local news snapper on a police raid.

I'd only just passed my driving test and was nervous joining this convoy of cop cars on its way to the action. Mainly focused on not crashing into any of them I soon got dropped.

Eventually we got to the address and the man with the cam jumped out the car but too late to capture any sledgehammer/front door drama. Turned out there was no-one at home so in all it was a bit of an anti-climax.

Undeterred, the photographer had a word with one of the police to try and get something set up.

The resulting 'action' shot featured a 6'6" ape of a plainclothed detective with a head like an arthritic knuckle. His sledgehammer raised in faux anger was 'caught' seemingly milliseconds from splintering contact with the door.

Unfortunately, the illusion was more than somewhat undermined by this tough character looking sideways and directly at the camera with an awkward smile on his face. What a sweety.

In the background and just within reach of the flash, two PCs were practically clutching their stomachs in laughing policeman mode.
