I agree, I thought much the same when I found this out. I just keep a cheapo showercap and a rubber band stuffed under the saddle and pop it on when the rain starts. Seems to work well, on my shropshire tour there was some seriously heavy rain and it kept it fairly dry.
Maybe it's the price of having a comfy saddle?
