** Thread containing a compliment - alert **

I pass a Sainsbury's depot on my way to work, and there's a single lane national speed limit road close by, so naturally I am passed by a lot of lorries on that stretch.

Some lorries pass closely, most are okay, but almost every Sainsbury's lorry waits until it is safe and passes with ample room. I can't recall a single time when they haven't. Perhaps they've been specifically advised about cyclists?

Has anyone else had experiences with Sainsbury's, or maybe other specific companies?

I think perhaps I should write to say thank you, though I have no idea who to write to!

It's nice to think that a major retailer would be pro-active in making their drivers more aware of cyclists.
Good on em if correct, perhaps a quick email to customer services expressing your thanks could also confirm the company's stand on this.
Also a nice nod of approval to the drivers may strengthen the pleasantries toward us.
Be good to hear their response.

I can't say that I've had anything like this one way or the other, but if you feel it is more than mere coincedence, it couldnt do any harm to write; positive reinforcement and all that.

The depot manager Im guessing would be the best person; even if it is literally FAO Depot Manager, x address.

Edit, or ineed as Minotier has suggested Sainsburys Customer Services stressing that you wish the message to be relayed to the relevant people.

Do it - I did to a local company here and they were delighted to hear it. They'd spent a lot on specialist driver training and my feedback confirmed to them that the investment had been worthwhile!

As they pointed out, it's good to get compliments as they usually only hear from the public with a complaint.

Cheers guys - I've sent it to the CEO.

He won't get it, but someone in the Director's office will probably make sure it reaches the right people.

Miquel - was that a home delivery vehicle, or a lorry?

Every veichle driver should pass you safely its what your taught when your learning to drive lol i very much doubt Sainsburys drivers are taught any differently to any other lorry driver our company insists on safe economical responsible driving and we have trackers for them to view average speed harsh braking fuel consumption etc etc. I can only speak from experience that its usually a personal pride in what you do for a job they are litteraly killing machines in the wrong hands. And with the consquences of what could happen if you missjudge speed distance etc makes you drive more ressponsibly. Everyone has had bad experiences with lorry drivers however on the flip side ive had bad experieces with idiot cyclists  guess if we were all perfect though our forums would be a little dull lol.

Glad to see some pro lorry driver posts though makes a nice change

Used to drive for Tesco on agency, never did for Sainsbury's, but Tesco's are very keen on the drivers they allow in, there are assessment's, reports etc. anyone not able to reach the required standard were not invited back. Each store drop had it's own manifest of the route to take, what to do when you get there, how to manoeuvre around the yard, some had special requirements, like not allowed to arrive before a specific time, pull up & switch the chillers off 5 miles out etc. All the supermarkets are now aware of the social media & customer retention, they know that if a cyclist was knocked off close to a main depot, that could affect sales over the counter.

I have exactly the same experience with Sainsbury HGVs, both on my commute and when I'm in the vicinity of the distribution centre. They're by far the most considerate in my experience, so whatever training they're getting is obviously working. Now, shall I tell you about the Addison Lee coach..........?

I've not contacted Sainsbury's before but I have contacted (phone and email) these companies to compliment their lorry drivers:
Bradstone Aggregates
Robert Wiseman Dairies.
