I don't understand.

Why is he picking up a cheap £1900 Micra with 90k on the clock for his missus, when he could easily get her a brand new B-class Merc, for example?

Does he want her and his kids stuck on the hard shoulder of the M40, waiting in the freezing cold for the AA man to arrive?

Because he can leave it at the pub without worrying about it (unlike the kid)
