Iv had my laptop for almost 2 years now, and its used every day. The battery has been very poor for a while now--it will only run off the battery for around 10-15 minutes, in this time it will go from fully charged to empty. Is it just time to get a new battery and is there anything I can do to prolong the life of the new one. I keep it charging from the mains most of the time Im using it, iv been told this is possibly whats killing the original battery but I dont know if thats right?
Any advice/thoughts very welcome, but nothing too technical please^_^

If you are going to use it off the mains most of the time take out the battery.

If you leave the battery in then charge it up and when it is charged unplug the charger and use the battery until it needs charging and repeat.

I've done the same with my netbook, battery useless now after 20 minutes.
Saying that it is over 3 years old so must be obsolete now

So many people kill there batteries by using the laptop off mains 90% of the time.
Always unplug the charger once the battery has charged, and only plug it back in when the low battery message appears.

I must have fried the battery on the Dell laptop that I'm using to post this. I only get about 50 minutes of CC browsing out of a full charge now whereas it was about 3 hours when I first got it.

It's pretty bloody crap that they don't use smart chargers which switch off when the job is done!
