Great to hear Sarah Outen has been awarded an MBE.
She is a 26 year old woman who is the first and youngest woman to row solo across the Indian Ocean (Oz to Mauritius).
She is now a quarter way round the world in her attempt to cycle-kayak-row all the way round the world from London, heading east, to London. Google her name and you'll find out more.
Good on you Sarah.

Not wanting to rain on her parade but has she really done enough to justify the honour?

boooooooo ^^^^^^^^

Taken from BBC website -----Ms Outen rowed 12 miles (19km) a day through 30 ft (nine metre) waves and shark-infested waters to become the first woman and youngest person to row solo across the Indian Ocean.

I would say it was pretty justified.

Its still only one feat of endurance. There's a lot of folk who have done more things and have received little or no recognition for them.

I thought honours were awarded to folk who'd got fatter portfolios of achievement.

Don't get me wrong her single accomplishment is awesome.

I agree with you completely. What she has done is fantastic but I don't feel it deserves an MBE.

Edit - Oh she is rather pretty. Now I understand

I don't like all the MBE stuff but that's politics, but as far as Sarah Outen is concerned good on her. Have been following her on twitter and it's quite inspiring what she is doing. Would rather people like her were recognized rather than Bruce Forsythe

I'm confused. If you do something, however awesome, for your own benefit why be honoured?
Climbing mountains, crossing oceans, winning championships brings its own reward including fame and even money. That's why you did it in the first place.

If you do things for other people and it requires considerable sacrifice then it surely a duty of any decent society to recognise and reward. If a gong will be welcome that's a cheap solution. Sometimes we should give something more tangible ...

Instead the majority go to the 'great and the good', political donors, timeservers and such like. Which IMHO is an insult to the truly worthy.
