Due to a Noodley wedding anniversary I missed out on this week's Friday Night is Music Night thread....

...but I need my music fix and fancy some Soul: any type of soul; Northern, Philly, Chicago, Psychedelic, Memphis, Deep South....anything goes.

Fats Domino claims to have been Walking to New Orleans, but I reckon he'd be pushed to walk further than his fridge:

Always liked the Stax sound myself and these guys were responsible for a lot of it.

Millie Jackson, 'Still Caught Up'. Fantastic in every way. A great recording, great music and more soul than a man can cope with. You'll be in a different place by the end of it.

Aretha Franklin is one of my all-time favorite singers, she's in a class of her own.

Some other singers have great power and articulation, like Whitney Houston for instance, but where as she seems to just throw her voice all over the place Aretha is purposeful and exact with every note. Most of the time anyway. Aretha paints complex musical pictures, Whitney just warbles!
