Lesson learned.

I picked up some cycling shoes in Aldi the other week, I needed to change my cleats in my old Lidl shoes, they were stuck in (I had a spare pair of cleats though). Then I put them back.

Aldi had ONE pair of shoes my size left...but I told myself "NO - be sensible - you have a bench and a drill, drill out the cleat bolts to remove the old ones and fit the new cleats, you don't need to spend £30 - Make do and mend.

I felt proud of my self-restraint, fitted the cleats and away I pedalled, good as new.

Yesterday I went to get my bike to ride home and suddenly thought "why is my left foot VERY flexible?" - the sole had split just behind the cleat plate.

Obviously, no more shoes left in Aldi so £70 later my cleats are now fitted to some Specialized shoes which I must admit are rather nice but...I don't think they are that far removed from the Aldi ones that I restrained myself from "frittering" money away on...

That's where austerity measures get you I suppose....

The Lidl ones must done you well to have worn out the cleats though. I have a pair inwhich I have done the raid Pyrenean twice amongst other things and they're still good.

yeah,,

i've not found any replacements in shops, so havent 'handed in' my shoes ( some of the connectors are broken,, so i'm using the 'back two' on one shoe, the front two on another,,,)... i figured, i'll use em till the others break, then just take the shoes back!

so far the cheapest replacement online is some MTB style at 50 quid.........

so in total 80 quid i'll have spent ( since i needed pedals!)..

they are good though arent they SPD ;)
