Extended ride home from work via the cash and carry, taking in part of the NCN route alongside the Sheffield Parkway.

Load of youths "off t'manor" up to something saw my bike lights approaching, clocked the hi-vis and, Frank Gallagher style, "Scatter"ed shouting "COPPERS!"

I don't even have a "POLITE" jacket either!!

Grim bit of track in the dark, very conscious of the glass that couldn't be seen but could be heard, crunching under my tyres, so that little incident gave me a chuckle to brighten the trip up.

I just wish I'd been on my white MTB to complete the look, if so I'd have chased them, confiscated their booze and let them off with a warning ;)

If I am forced to cycle past chavscum on or near cyclepaths I tend not to slow too much which must make blocking my path unattractive as they are more than likely to be run down, but I always thank them when they move out the way which they tend to do to their credit. I do of course cover the brakes in case I have to emergency stop. Don't normally have a problem with teenage ones unless they are in cars or on motorbikes which are to be avoided at all costs. The only prob I do have with them is all the bottles they smash on cyclepaths. For young kids I slow right down as I figure they are unpredictable. Should there be a collision, then as a cyclist, one would be for the high jump .

Very similar problem here. Litter and smashed glass everywhere.

At one point on my commute I go down a VERY steep bank from a dis-used railway line to a canal tow path below. I then immediately go through a canal bridge/tunnel.

It has taken me months of practice to pluck up the courage to get down this steep bank. When I am brave enough to ride this section I still feel the need to scream and half shut my eyes as the bike launches itself off a small drop-off/jump.

Anyway, the last time I rode down this bank (several weeks ago) I shot off the jump screaming away as normal and swept into the tunnel bellow, still doing a good 25mph. Only this time I realised I wasn't the only one screaming.

I opened my eyes to find that I wasn't alone. A group of about 10 lads had been sitting peacefully under this bridge drinking away. Unaware that any moment this screaming banshee of a MTBer would come swooping out of the darkness and through this tunnel.

Now i'm not sure who was the most surprised. Me to find the tunnel was 'occupied' or them to suddenly have their quite drink disturbed; but I kind of got the impression they weren’t exactly pleased.
