It was very obvious that today is the first day of the school summer holidays, even though I left home late which would have normally put me in "heavy" traffic, it was a very pleasant ride with not many cars on the roads. Six more weeks of lightly trafficked roads and hopefully the sunshine as well.

I was about to post the same thread! If anybody is thinking of taking the plunge into urban cycle commuting this is the week to start. I estimate there is about 25% less traffic on the roads, particularly near the few schools I pass on the early part of the commute. The weather's decent, and there was an amazing number of cyclists, Oval tube was literally 8 deep at the lights.

So if you want to cycle to work, start now, you've got six easy weeks to get the hang of things with a big pack of other cyclists to show you the ropes (and teach you how not to do things!)

Go for it!

Was a nice traffic-less pootle to work this morning (apart from some god-damn bleedn' roadworks on the busiest part)..

The alternative "glass half full" view from this morning

The battered Vectra that looks at the bus lane and thinks "only 10 cars in the queue, I'll floor it and go round them" where they wouldn't have the bottle to try it on a 30-40 car queue in case one was a police car

Funny how many people suddenly don't need to visit the doctor when the kids are home. I made an appointment this morning and instead of the usual two week wait for a non urgent appointment I was offered almost a choose my own. I am seeing one of the most popular doctors tomorrow!

Hit a load of traffic near Cheadle on the A560. Turned out to be a SMIDSY on a motorbike unfortunately. A car had pulled out of the Tesco Expess and hit a motorbike. Bike on floor, and car bit of a mess. 2 cop cars and ambulance - hopefully rider OK being treated in ambulance. There was a cusion on the floor (possibly put under rider).

Northenden was pretty traffic free for once.

Hopefully that'll work the same for my physio referral

the only good thing about the kids being off school is that they're outside in the fresh air on their bikes!

other then that its bug mum and dad from sun up to sun down lol.

I was thinking the very same thing on both journeys to & from work today.

Although on the way to work this morning approaching a large (ish) rab where it should have been easy to negotiate, suddenly from nowhere 2 massive tractors each pulling 2 trailers of muck appeared on my shoulder preventing me from going to the righthand lane. Behind them both was loads of traffic, so I cheated  stopped at the crossing pushed the button and let the green man stop them whilst I carried on across.

I think there is the same amount of traffic, it can just "spread out" a bit more when they don't have to travel to a school start deadline. Definitely better near schools though!

Depends if you're lucky enough to have a rest from them at work.

I work from home. Luckily my mum is taking them this week for the three days my wife is at work. Unluckily next week I've had to take those three days off so I've got all three of them, all day

They're already driving me mad. Yesterday morning one of them shoved soap up the cold tap in the bathroom and I didn't realise until I brushed my teeth

Roll on September...
