I live in a coastal town and the place I volunteer at is also in a coastal town with only one main road joining it. Now that the schools are out and the weather finally seems to have improved, everybody seems to be wanting to head for the beach, which has meant that the traffic is slightly busier than normal.

Hardly any traffic plus most of the lights and roundabouts went in my favour which meant a blisteringly fast ride in to work today.

Only thing I've noticed, is more folk taking risks pulling out from side roads, as traffic is lighter.

Had two pull outs on me this week, usual blackspot, but I was spun up to 30mph on the fixed, following traffic. Both times brakes covered, but I was able to switch and pass both cars as they were accellerating. They got a 'hand in the air' jesture.

Also seen one cyclist down at a roundabout, and a motorbike down near a Tesco expesss. Another motorist was getting impatient at same Tesco this morning, and started to edge out as I'm approaching, I then quickly move further over than primary, and she shakes her head. I felt like stopping and saying 'someone impatient like you seriously injured a motorcyclist here not two days ago'.... but I just shoved my hand out in a 'What' jesture.

Traffic's been lighter generally.

The traffic that's not doing the school run is doing other things instead - like heading for the coast at the slightest hint of sunshine.

My route to work unfortunately involves crossing or using the A64 - the main route to Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, Bridlington... During the summer, the traffic's brought down to around 15 or 20mph for stretches, which might seem like a good thing, but...

at junctions, where you want to join or cross, actually crossing two stream of nose-to-tail crawling traffic is very difficult. Folk waiting to join or cross get impatient, jump the queue or try to force their way in and sooner or later, there'll be a crunch.

About this time two years ago, I was one of those crunched. Very cautious now!
