Is the new England captain!

You've got to hand it to Psycho - he's not just keeping the seat warm for somebody else.

I'm not convinced, but Gerrard never struck me as charismatic enough to be a captain, and, after the (ridiculous) sacking of John Terry there wasn't a queue of qualified candidates.

Is Parker the right chap for the job? Let's have a poll and find out!

I've always had a soft spot for "little Scotty Parker" after seeing him score a wonder goal for Charlton against Southampton.

He may not be the best player we've got, but if the captain has any role in a football team it's to enthuse and encourage and "little Scotty P" can do that in spades

Stuart pearce clearly has passion and has done a cracking job with the under 21's I'm sure he hasn't taken the Captains role lightly and must feel confident in Scott Parker's leadership abilities,It is only a friendly after all.

Steven Gerrard has been way off the pace after his lay-off - I can't see him making the starting XI unless the management look at him through Beckham tinted spectacles.

Ferdinand,Terry,Lampard and Cole are all past it.

Rooney will get sent off third game into the tournament.

So - Parker it is then.

I fear that the squad for the euro's will consist of the failures of previous tournaments Cole,Gerrard, rooney,Lampard,Heskey:whistle:etc Id like to see the new generation have a go.

not if Psycho's picking it. But, then again, he may not.

Id like to think he has the balls to pick players on form and not past reputations.

I reckon he's been chosen because of the side parting, he and Pearce must use the same "hairdressers", it's the only sensible reason I can think of.

I don't really read it like that - he's got to pick someone. Parker is a quiet guy, of unempeachable character (to my knowledge), likely to be there or there abouts when it comes to the Euros and not have any baggage lurking around.
You can count on him not being put out if he doesn't retain the captaincy for long, so serves as a good short term appointment. Given the chance he might help bring a bit of dignity back to the England team.

I would disagree that Terry's sacking was ridiculous. It came too late but it's right for English football that it came at last.
