I want to change my seatpost to a zero setback version.

I quite like this Thomson Elite inline model http://www.wiggle.co.uk/thomson-elite-inline-seat-post/

I've measured my current seatpost and it's diameter is around ~30.9mm

If I am out by a couple of hundreds of a mm will it still fit ok? e.g. if its 30.8 or 31.6 and I get a 30.9?
I can't see it making a difference but I thought I better check first.

Also, if you guys and girls can recommend something else which you think is better then by all means let me know.

Cheers

Whip your old one out, it might actually say at the bottom what size it is

OK I've changed my mind on which seatpost. I figured I might as well get a carbon one!

but they come in 27.2mm so I'm guessing I will need a shim

outside 29.8, inside 27.2

Sound OK?

Apropos of nothing much, but what are the benefits for each type of post, inline v layback post?
Paddy, I'm getting it so I can bring the seat further forward as I have run out of adjustment, I am not really sure if there are any other reasons/benefits?

Don't buy a new seat post because your reach is too great, replace the handlebar stem.
