I have for a number of years had a bright pink sticker on my crossbar saying "Coded Cycle". I get these from my local police crime prevention unit. Who knows if they work, but I haven't had a bike nicked for over 10 years, so I believe in the power of the sticker!
My current sticker is beginning to peel and needs replacing, but the local police no longer supply these and claim that they don't know where they came from.

Does anyone know where I can buy these?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums "Rain" appropriate name at the moment  .

I think the coded stickers were given out after the police stamped your postcode under the bottom bracket. Our kids had theres done in school years ago, not sure I would want some heavy handed copper attacking my bike with a hammer and punch though.

I remeber those too! Had one on a bike about 20 years ago (it looked like this) - like Banjo says it was given out when the police stamped the postcode under the BB. I don't think the police round here do it these days - the only places I've seen those stickers are on bikes of a similar vintage. Perhaps it's possible to make one with a printer and some suitable sticker material though?

Recently went to a cycle event in Canterbury, Big Wheel of Kent.
The police stand were doing a cracking trade in taking bike/owner details & issueing sets of stickers, one with a barcode with an almost impossible to remove wrap around clear sticky flap, the other was the bright pink "Coded Cyle"
Not sure where you are Rain but you could try contacing Kent police..?

Thanks for the replies. The ebay sticker is funny but not quite my style. I think that they do have a positive deterrent effect. If there are 5 bikes and one has a clear message about being coded then it probably wont be picked by a thief, (this does of course mean that I don't want everyone to have one!).
'Funnymummy' I am actually in Worthing, I may try Kent Police but my guess is that they wont want to start sending these all over the country.

Alright Neighbour! I'm just over the border in Lancing!!
I know that our local force do, do a bike tagging system as they've done several of my other bikes in the past. I'll ask our local PCSO if he's outside the school later x

I am a retired cop and once did a months attachment to our "Community Involvement" branch, whose job it was to carry out the stamping. As the "boy" of the department, it was my task to go and greet any member of the public who brought their bike in to have their postcode stamped onto the underside of the BB. I used to cringe with embarassment when some poor kid brought their new pride and joy to me, then have it attacked with a hammer and punch. Flakes of paint chipping off for about a centimetre radius around the stamp. At least I used to recommend that they put a coat of clear lacquer over it when they got home (our service didn't extend to such luxuries!).

This was well before the days of carbon frames, I am pleased to say. I don't suppose the owners of some of the more expensive Roubaixs etc. would have let me near them with a hammer and punch .

As for the stickers, yes I remember them but no; I didn't keep a stash! No doubt however there will be long forgotten boxes of them in unused cupboards in Police stations up and down the country. Good luck trying to convince someone to go searching for them though .

Edit.... As an alternative, what about "alphadot" paint as used on motorcycles? A bit expensive at £25 for the kit but it can be used to mark each part of your bike, and comes with "hard to remove" warning stickers.

Yes the coding process is a bit brutal isn't it. My current bike isn't actually coded, I just have the sticker!

Thanks for the further suggestions. Interesting to see that Sussex Police do still have stickers.................in Brighton.
Strangely enough this morning I received a couple of old style ones in the post from Sussex police in Worthing. They say that they are the very last ones and they wont be getting any more. These will be ok for the next year or so.
