hi all,

have you seen this site?

http://www.rivbike.com/article/clothing/the_shoes_ruse

has loads of info about cycling. most of it makes sense and makes one think. have a read and see if you, like me, think he is a bit of a militant. it takes a bit to navigate around the site to find all the info, but worth it. for those who read 'yehuda moon' apparently the author based yehuda's monthly leaflet on this site.

Militant? He uses techy words like 'gription', wears sandles and socks and has a she-dog. I'm prepared to bet one pair of carbon forks that he also has a beard.

Just had a read of the page you linked to.

I was sort of thinking along those lines, I havn't gone clipless, because I don't think it would make much difference at my level of performance. But the fact I can wear my trainers or office shoes (which I do for my commute) counts for more in terms of benefit to my cycling experience than a bit of extra power from clipless. Very interesting article.

I have a love/hate relationship with Rivendell - they make some really nice, practical stuff. Some of their advice is really good. But they don't like modern materials/components in a way that's (sometimes) incredibly blinkered and slightly odd.

The Rivendell Reader is always good though - last ish had trout fishing advice in it, would you believe.

This. (pdf)

Sums them up really.

Bit of an odd piece about crabon forks on the front, insides full of practical advice for fitting racks, using old steel mtbs as beater bikes, and trout fishing advice.

I've read that article before. A good read. It didn't change my views on pedals though.

It didn't need to. I've been a committed anti-clipless all along. But I also believe that everyone should have the choice. I use toe-clips. That's why I feel sad that so many shops offer so little, and inferior, choice of pedals of the rat-trap pattern, preferring to line their shelves with SPDs.
