Your fitness may be improving but having a bellyfull on Friday night is not the best preparation for a Saturday morning ride. Take it as a lesson learned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing how a few beers can affect your performance the following morning.

A friend warned me of this and lent me his Heart Rate Monitor to use the 'morning after the night before' as an experiment. Although I felt fine-ish for my shortish commute, my heart rate was about 30% over normal and the legs didn't quite have it...

The fact you made it after a Friday night session suggest you are indeed getting fitter.

I'll go with that too - but I'll also go with the rest of the comments as well.

Good 'ole Beer, the wine of the country, is indeed a wonderfull concoction. Trouble is the doctored rubbish we get peddled in most pubs is so full of nasties that it's an absolute killer to one and all.

Yep... I had the same problem this weekend. Missus and baby away for whole weekend!! 55 mile cross country planned for Saturday and 60 mile road for Sunday. Supposed to do a little DIY in between.

So straight to the pub after work Friday.. too many beers, didn't eat properly either. Did the planned ride, really enjoyed it until the last 10 miles when I hit the wall!! Came home, ate loads, went to pub again. Got up late. Tentative and slow 20 miles. Back to Pub for roast lunch + just 1 beer. F1 and World Road Champs on the box. Wife home. No DIY, no shopping, nothing useful done at all in her eyes.

Gutted I messed up my riding plans... but it was a good weekend nonetheless!!

That's why its served freezing cold to hide the bloody awful taste. Casked real ale or bottle conditioned beer for me :becool:

Yep I agree, if you stick to real cask ale you will fare much better than the chemically smooth beers or lager.

I had five pints of cask on Saturday night and managed a 45 miler in the rain the next day. If that had been lager I wouldn't have made it half way!
