Steam them so that they aren't like sludge - I hate mushy sprouts, there's no need for them!

Too right, MDB. My sprouts are always nice and firm, slightly al dente. Mrs F is fond of of them, and visitors have been most complimentary.

We were in a charity shop last weekend and they were selling various Christmas things such as packs of cards - they'd put a sign up saying:"Only 171 days until Christmas!"

Hard to take exception given this was more tongue-in-cheek than hard selling. Made me smile anyway.
