Severity of hills

The most severe hill gradient is the one which an 8 hp Renault with a driver and passenger; and two suitcases of luggage needs help to climb.

Less severe gradients are determined by the gear ratio the Renault needs to be in to ascend the gradient.

A "Serious cyclist" will know who was driving the car.

A car that can't get up any hill in good conditions shouldn't really be on the road.

I rate hills by whether I have to sink my teeth into the bar-tape or not...
