Can't spell, Can't Punctuate....Sue Me
First time out on the roadie today and noticed that the front sti shifter is very stiff on the down shift amost feels like its going to snap.....is there anything i can do to loosen it up a bit, the rear shifter is brilliantly smooth

Cheers guys

ps the cable is really tight too, could i loosen it a little???

It'll loosen on its own in a bit.

My front Tiagra lever made a loud crack sound changing down when it was new, things soon loosened up.

My is very stiff down shift as well and it also does the same loud crack. I've thought about putting a bit of grease inside. Is this a good idea?

Every bike I've bought online has had the front mech cable installed too tight. Resulting in a loud clunk when shifting down.
I tensioned the cable properly (as in per the instructions) or as in this post.

Had the same thing after the LBS installed a new crank. You just need to loosen the cable tension by turning the barrel adjuster to shorten the outer or even loosen it at the fixing bolt. There should be 2 clicks, the first applies trim and the second drops to the little ring.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I hsd this when i overtightened the barrel adjuster on my 2300`s.

The shifter to drop it down was very stiff and the downshift was very clunky.

Resetting the tension sorted it all out.
