Shimano m520 spd pedals

Can anyone tell me the tools i need to adjust the bearings on shimano M 520/540 pedals. Mine have started to need a bit of adjustment and it seems they need some special tools to do it?

never service dthese pedals but theers an exploded view of them here and the special tool (11) is listed but doesn't say what is needed for but it looks like it fits part 2.

I've never serviced any of mine, I find that a regular drop of oil is sufficient to keep them working OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might find that stripping them down will be the end of them......squirt some grease in there...run them into the ground and then buy some more...I have the same pedals.

i've had 959's apart and back together. but they didn't need special tools.
they're not that complcated inside.

Hmm, not sure about adjusting the bearings, but I do know that you need a special tool to open the M520, unlike the more expensive versions which you can simply do with a spanner! I think this is it:
