I decided to replace the bearings in my pedals the other day. Sourced some replacement balls (oo-er) ,disassembled the pedals, degreased, dried etc. I got interrupted/distracted (as always happens at times like this) and now can't remember how the pedals were assembled, fully.

I've looked at the Shimano tech docs for the item, but they're not very clear. The problem I have is with 4 components. A rubber seal/washer, a plastic washer/cap, a metal 'sleeve' and a 10mm nut, as they all have chamfers around them, or are not symetrical at both ends, so don't know which way around they go.

I've circled and numbered the components in the diagram below. I think I have everything the correct way around, but #3 (metal sleeve) is alluding me. In the docs, it is shown as having 2 lines/markings around each end. With my pedals, there is only 1 darker, chamfer type line at one end. Which way does this fit? With the chamfer towards the pedal body, or the chamfer towards the pedal spindle (bike side)

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could help with this matter.

TIA

As far as I remember

#1) is a plastic seal which slots into their the end of their 2.

#2) The chamfered bit (you said #3 but mean #2) mates with a bit iin the pedal body so goes into the pedal body.

#3 is a spacer and I think can go either way.

#4 is a cone - you should see a race on it which mates with the bearings.

Have a look on Youtube - there should be plenty of Shimano Pedal service videos.
