Reports are emerging tonight about a new doping scandal which threatens to disgrace an up and coming sport. This report comes direct from a citizen journalist at the incident.

WADA officials were called to a game of inter-house Quidditch at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry after suspicions were raised, post-game, about the amazing performance of keeper Ron Weasley. Spectators were awestruck by the demonstration of world-class moves to defend the Gryffindor hoops against arch rivals Slitherin.

It is believed that WADA had been tipped off moments before the game by a friend of the player, Luna Lovegood, who claimed that she witnessed none other than the Chosen One, Gryffindor seeker Harry Potter, administer a vial of liquid to Weasley's drink while in the presence of many close friends.

WADA officials arrived late on in the game and witnessed a last desperate attack by the Slytherin chasers to breach the Gryffindor defence. They moved in on Weasley the moment the Golden Snitch was caught. Weasley protested his innocence until a urine sample was demanded. The keeper changed his story and appeared to confess to the doping, saying that he had been given a Felix Felicis potion by his team captain.

In a shock turn of events, Weasley's girlfriend Hermione Granger claimed that the keeper had been tricked into thinking that he had consumed the potion. Disappointed officials left the grounds when Potter was able to produce an intact vial of the potion, but not before lecturing the players on the dangers of doping and the severe consequences.

In a statement issued later, WADA declared that systematic team doping had absolutely no place in the Quidditch community, and urged any suspected cases be brought to it's attention immediately. The spokesman continued by saying that a zero-tolerance policy was in place and all positive cases carry an automatic lifetime ban from the broomstick.

Can you tell I went to see Harry Potter tonight? My thoughts immediately turned to doping

Nah, coz I'm assuming that you'll have read the book.

Besides, where is the fun in not being able to lead people on with an intruiging thread opener?!?!

Whether they're boring is going to be a matter of opinion, JKR's stories are bound to be derivative: after all that's how a lot of children's fantasy fiction is made up. For example, the idea of a magical 'portal' to take you into your fantasy world. Lewis Carroll had a rabbit-hole, C S Lewis made his a wardrobe. H G Wells wrote a short (adult) satire on the concept, entitled The Door in the Wall. So if JKR chooses to set hers in a railway station, so much the better: the more mundane the setting the bigger the imaginative leap the reader has to make. It's an excellent plot device.

Oh, and the 'felix' episode described above, well that's an excellent piece of satire on real-life scandal in the world of top-level sport, with which we're - alas! - only too familiar. Good luck to her for working that in to the story - with a clever twist!

I sort of skimmed through all the books as they came out, so I could talk to my kids about them... quite like 'em, but my memory of the plot lines is very sketchy, as i wasn't really reading them properly; but I've enjoyed watching all the films... escapism... going sometime next week with the younger 2 nippers (12 and 10). Eldest (16) saw it yesterday.

Speed read 'em all. Easy escapism reading.

Booked to see it on sunday .Only to see the special effects though. You see i was a painter and decorator many years ago at the Leeds Grand Theatre.

And scenery painting is an awesome gift.A very large blank canvas turns into room, garden etc.

Never read any of the books never fancied them.

Well, I saw it this afternoon and feel I wasted 2 and a half hours of my life - I still do not know what it was all about, if anything.
