Shoe laces?

My shoes have 2 velcro straps on them and shoe laces.

I do not do the laces up that tight and i was wondering does anyone bother with laces? they do feel looser without them

They just stop the foot sliding around in the shoe if you are pulling back or up on the pedals etc ( similar to the ratchets found on road shoes ) which makes pedalling that bit more efficient.

i have them on my mtb spd and do them up, double bow otherwise the lace can get caught in the chainring - no need to ask how I know that.
