Shoe stiffness index

I just went and bought some new cycling shoes as my old ones had worn away. On the sole it says 'Stiffness index 11.0'
Anyone know what this index means?

I have a cucumber wrapped in tin foil if that will help!

No idea what the stiffness index goes up to but the top-end shoes are around 8 - 10 so yours must be really stiff.
