Wait until the last day to come up with stuff that needs to be done NOW... and with a face on them? ;) As though I should shove the hol and stay at work.

Broke up for a week today and it seems like EVERYONE has waited for today to give me hassle and want stuff done. Meetings, conference calls, emails, product development etc etc.

Holidays are planned and I book them well in advance (at least 3 months) so work can get sorted out.

Today has been a day I would like to forget. I'm bloody knackered!!!

*looks at bottle of wine*

Sods law!
Happens to me every time I have some time off booked too.
Main thing is it's over now so enjoy your week off.

Aye, happened to me yesterday as well (off today and the next two weeks). Thursday was crazy, boss came in and said we have £xx to spend before the end of the financial year can you get the servers bought!;)

I'm now going to be wondering if eveything I set in motion will work out.

So who else keeps an eye on their work e-mails when on holiday?

I don't but lots of academics do - they rarely switch off. In fact lots of academics just work all the time, even when they're on holiday. I probably would but my other half won't allow me to. I get a right bollocking if I even go within 10 meters of a computer.

Teachers do. There will always be a change or a meeting or something that needs to happen before term starts like rewriting the whole schedual of works because the estimated numbers of students starting has changed.

me I'm a bursar and the teachers are the worst culprits at leaving things until the last minute and expecting me to do it in the holidays - I get paid for 40 weeks a year and end up worked about 48! But mostly I love my job - day off today and have worked most of the time, just about to pay some bills yep before they take away our money at the end of the year. I think if my other half hadn't left I would work far less. My work emails automaticcally come through at home it saves me catching up on them every time I'm in the office. Probably going in tomorrow to do some catching up too.
