Hello everyone,

I've just recently come back from a quick tour around Tenerife. I had a great time; the weather was perfect, the locals were really friendly and best of all the scenery was incredible; especially the further up inland you go - parts were like cycling on Mars.

If anyone is interested in reading my journal here's my cgoab link.

I would be interested to hear from anyone else who has toured around Tenerife as I haven't' found any other journals about it.

Anthony.

Great report and photos and pleased to see you enjoyed it so much and as you found the difficult part in a lot of places is finding water and carrying enough with you for the day.

Having lived in Tenerife for two and a half years until two years ago you have my upmost respect touring there as it is not the easiest of places to cycle. Everyone has this pre-concieved idea of Tenerife as being all about the holiday resorts, Las Americas etc but away from the south coast and into the mountains the scenery is absolutely fantastic and I have been back twice over the winter for a month walking on the island with a friend of mine who lives there. Definately a winter island as the heat is too much in the summer for either walking or cycling.

Most of my cycling there was mountain biking as it has a fantastic range of trails but after a while all of the mountains and heat wear you down and you really look forward to a flatter landscape and a reprieve from the heat.

Not toured, but visited with the bike.

You picked the correct road to descend from the plateau - the one going northwest is tediously bumpy.

If you're going to Teide, get a summit pass (you need to do this in advance) - they may be slacker on days when the cable car isn't running, but they did check when we went, and it's worth the extra climb.
