The common factor here is pedestrians, so why not ban pedestrians - problem solved.

The comments are fairly well measured. Ultimately, this story is about Mr Van Loon getting his face in the paper, and dropping a quick plug for his cafe. I'm sure he's more than willing to serve tea and cake to said cyclists if they stop by.

It happened in Southend Council's much vaunted 'shared space'. Last time a cyclist knocked down a pedestrian here the local councillor for roads tried to claim the location of the collision wasn't actually shared space. Now we have a councillor claiming cyclists are not supposed to be riding where this more recent collision happened… even though there are shared path signs right where it happened. See video and description here:

An overwhelming 75% say no - unlucky, councillor (who's trying to curry favour with Joe Public so they can frequent his caf).

Of course, cyclists have to take care, but pedestrians also have a responsibility. Was it recorded IF Mrs Lay-Flurrie was a slobbish chav?

'Shared space'... Sounds like Loony Leftie talk to me! Put a dedicated cycle lane there. Job done

If (as the report says) the collision was on the pavement, then cycling is already banned - same as it is on any pavement.

In Bournemouth the cycle path along the front is only there in the winter as it is stuffed full of peds in the summer.
