So i took my new rockrider 5.2 out for it's first ride on saturday, had a great ride. Only problem is that a few times, when i changed gears, it wouldn't find the gear properly with a clicking noise coming from the gears. I just had to change into a different gear and then would be fine. Then once, going up a particularly steep incline, the chain came off!
now i know it something to do with the derallieur( is that how you spell it? )but as this is my first mtb, i don't really want to fiddle around to much.
Question is, is this the whole bedding in process of a new mtb?
or should it be all correctly done at the store? If i took it back to the store, would they fix it, or is it something i should do myself?

If it's a brand new bike, then yes take it back to the store and ask them to index the gears properly of which they should have done in the first place. They should also offer a free first service after a few weeks so ask about that also.

Thx for the quick response. They did give the bike a once over before i took it out ths store, but obviously the bloke didn't do it properly. Problem is it'll be my third trip there in 2 weeks. Not a short journey to reading either. Oh well.
regarding the service. I know halfords do a free 6 week service, but not sure if decathlon do. Nothing was said to me when i bought the bike.

On Decathlon's website it says that they offer a warranty of all products, and a 'satisfied or return' policy.

the chances are all it needs is the gear cable adjusting. Now this is easy to do yourself, and an essential skill to learn, but can seem daunting to a newbie. If you are going to ride off road regularly then there are a few skills you really ought to learn just in case something goes wrong miles from home/the car/the station.

trouble is with the plethora of bike setups it is almost impossible to tell you how to sort it without knowing the bike.

You could do worse than dropping a fiver or so on a copy of this A trip to the library might turn up something similar.

First they sold me the wrong size bike. Took a large home, put the child seat on, which i bought at the same time as the bike. And found that with the seat on the back i couldn't get my leg over the frame. Surely the sales bloke should have thought of this when i asked advice on frame size. Thinking back a large was far to big anyway.
So i swapped the large for a medium on friday, had the same spotty teen salesman!
and now i have to go up there again!
Think a snotty email might be in order!

TBH, I'd give up on this lot, take the bike back for a refund and go somewhere where they have a clue.

You shouldn't swing your leg over the child seat. You may just aim a fair old boot to the head of your child. You don't want to do that. Lifting your leg over the frame is the correct way when child seat fitted..

Other than the aforementioned problen, i am happy with the bike. Seats a bit hard and new grips wouldn't go amiss. But good for the price!

Lol. I know it's the correct way. But he should have realised id have to get on the bike in a different way and suggested the medium for this reason!

You aren't going to get such a vfm proposition as a rockrider from many other sources. It is a cracking beginners bike and probably quite a decent way to tow the little one round. At six foot to be fair you are on the cusp of most mediaum/large frames and which you go for is a taste thing. I'm six two and have been known to ride a medium in some off road circumstances.

Rather than a two hour trip spend 30 minutes googling how to adjust the cable on a derailleur or "mech" and have a look at the Park Tools and Sheldon Brown websites. Most likely all they will do in the shop is turn an adjuster about half a turn, to take out some slack, and hand you the bike back.

NB Do not touch the limit screws until further advised. Step away from the limit screws with your hands in the air!
